Mother Liberty,
take my hand
Lead me through
the golden door
of this new land.
I long for comfort.


You stand
aside the shore,
where my own mother cries,
homeless once more
Betrayed
by those who
extinguish
your welcome.


Naively, I follow
still yearning to breathe
Free of darkness.
Your lifted lamp
my only hope
of finding light.
