Expectant Mother ("with child")

Lady Liberty  

is noticeably 

pregnant

Swelling with

purpose. New form

promising. 

Happiness. 

Yet, she is cautious.

already grieving, 

the loss 

of a still born dream.  

Conceived by fathers 

whose intentions 

were as misleading

as false labor.

Ever the dreamer

Her excitement mounts

once more, 

feeling the familiar

resistance within (her borders)

Reminders of what 

she is meant to be.

Lady Liberty 

is noticeably 

pregnant

awaiting 

that moment

we will coax forth

her new life

Each citizen 

a midwife 

at the birth of our nation...

waters breaking,

Enlightening

The world,

From sea 

to shining 

sea.
